Homeschooling my Children

Homeschooling Homeschooling my children and loving it

Homeschooling my Children

I remember the day that the Lord started speaking to my heart about homeschooling.  It was the same time I was crying out to God to grow closer to Him, to know Him more, to learn to live daily, hourly for Him and not for myself.  God, in all his infinite wisdom, knew the very thing that would cause me to die to self and learn to pull on His grace, daily:  HOMESCHOOLING

I always had friends that homeschooled their children and the majority of the moms that went to my church homeschooled their children.  To be honest, it was never a thought in my head, nor on “my” radar.  I never asked or questioned them why they homeschooled, if they liked homeschooling… nothing…. my thoughts were always, “wow, good for you… my kids go to school!  End of discussion. It was never even something I took an interest in discovering…. until, I started crying out for more of God and wanting to surrender my will for His, and to do any and everything He desired in my life.

I am NOT saying that in order to draw close to God, you have to homeschool your children!  I am simply telling you my story and how God brought me down this homeschooling path.

Homeschooling as a Family

Homeschooling has brought so many blessings to my family.  One thing I felt prior to homeschooling my children was that we were 4 separate individuals and I didn’t feel a sense of “family” and “unity.”  I felt we all had our own individual life and no one really knew the other family member, as we should.  We were all busy going our separate ways each and every day and there was very little “family” time to connect and be a “family!” I wanted to have a close knit family and homeschooling has allowed that.

Homeschooling as a Unit

Homeschooling has brought not only me closer to my two boys, but it has brought my sons closer to one another.  They are best friends.  When I ask them why they want to be homeschooled, their answer is always the same:  “I love my mommy being my teacher, and I love being at home and doing school with my brother.”  They have given me the same anwer for 5 years now!  That confirms year after year that we are in God’s will and we are all a ‘unit’ doing what the Lord has called us to do, as a ‘family.’

Are you Homeschooling your children?

Do you find that you are closer than ever before and you are a ‘family’ and a ‘unit’?  I would love to have you share your comments below and how homeschooling has drawn you closer to your children.  Iron sharpens iron!  A 3 corded strand is not easily broken!

Always remember the reason why you are homeschooling!  I have to remind myself that homeschooling is a marathon and not a sprint.  We are a family, we are a unit and together, in Christ, we can do it!  So can you!  I am here for you!

Carrie, I so relate. God is so sneaky–He has used what I feel passionate about and called to (homeschooling) to draw me close to Himself. And our family is definitely close as a result of homeschooling. My kids laugh, learn, play, fight, and scheme together. What memories we are creating!

Debbie, that is so true! It is a beautiful thing to see the big picture and our purpose and role as mothers. Keep your eyes on Him and surely your children will rise and call you blessed. Bless you and your family! Thanks for the comment and visiting my site!

It’s so true that it’s a marathon and not a sprint! The growth happens in small steps. I have two boys as well and they are best friends. I’ve only been homeschooling a short time but I love it. Thanks so much for sharing these encouraging words!

Hi Christina! Thank you so much for your dedication to your children and raising them according to His ways. We need each other and know that you are never alone! I find it the highest privilege to pray for my sisters. Bless you on your homeschool “marathon” journey!
