What are you drinking? Water or… ?

Water what are you drinkingWhat are you drinking? Water or…?

What is your favorite drink?  What drink do you consume the most during the day?  Do you drink water?  Here are some facts of water and why you should consume water daily.  Most people do not consume enough water in a day, rather they choose coffee, soft drinks, juices, and milk.  Water tends to be, for many, the last choice.

Do you ever wonder why that is, when our bodies are made up of primarily water? Up to 60 percent of the human body is water, the brain is composed of 70 percent water, blood is 82 percent water, and the lungs are nearly 90 percent water. It seems like we would crave water, all day every day.

Things you should know about water- the best drink

  1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.(It likely applies to half the world population.)
  2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.
  3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one’s metabolism as much as 3%.
  4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a U-Washington study.
  5. Lack of water, the Number 1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
  6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
  7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.
  8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.
  9. Every system in your body depends on water. For example, water flushes toxins out of vital organs, carries nutrients to your cells and provides a moist environment for ear, nose and throat tissues.

Water an effective medicine

Water is nature’s most effective medicine because it is essential for cleaning and removing toxins from the body. When your body does not get enough water it cannot remove toxins and problems start occurring. When you are under stress, growth or any other kind of change including healing, your body will produce chemicals and other waste that need to be removed from your system. If you think about it most types of healing suggests that you drink water after a session, I wonder why?! Water will remove waste through your lungs, skin (sweat), urine and feces. Enough water will mean that your system will effectively remove toxins and help keeping you healthy.

Water and how it affects your health

It is recommended that you drink at least eight, eight ounce glasses of water per day, or a better method is drinking half of your body weight. The best way to take water is to steadily sip it throughout the day. You should also eat plenty of fruits and vegetables – most of the produce you eat is filled with water, and the body can process this water very efficiently.  Drinking the sufficient amount of water daily, can actually solve many problems. Water is known to have an effect on diverse diseases like: angina, arthritis, asthma, back problems, depression, diabetes, excess weight, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, migraine, MS, and more. Water lubricates joints and organs. It maintains muscle tone and keeps skin elastic and soft.

Bloating, or retention of water in your body, is another common problem in people.  This is simply and surprisingly because of not drinking enough water. Sounds odd, huh? Water helps your liver convert fat into usable energy. If you don’t drink enough, your kidneys are overwhelmed with concentrated fluids, and they will make your liver do extra work. Your liver works hard to turn your body fat into the energy that you use but if it has to do the kidney’s work, then it simply holds onto the extra fat that would have been burned off if you simply had enough water. And so what happens is that instead of excreting water, your body actually retains water to reuse.  When you don’t get enough water, your body panics and holds on to it selfishly, as though you’re in a famine.

Dehydration thus can make you look bloated and fat instead of thin and taut. The best way to get rid of this water retention is to drink enough of water to return your body and its processes back to  its normal, healthy state.

Adding citrus fresh or lemon essential oil to your water is not only tasty, but also helps medicinally.

Big water drinker here! I very rarely do pop (and I’m trying not to even do that) and so that’s pretty much all I ever drink- water. I never buy juice and so the drinks at our house are milk, water, or unsweet tea. Love how good water is for us and I try to pass that knowledge on to my family. Great post! I shared it on my fb page!

Hey Kenda! I love it! I am in agreement with you! Water does a body good! I absolutely LOVE water and am addicted to it, I think. I say that because I can not go 5 minutes without wanting a sip of water. I never go anywhere without a bottle of water in my hand. Thanks for commenting and as always, to your health! :)

Thanks for stopping by! We tend to forget the value of drinking water and it does need to be the drink we grab for first. Blessings!

Thank you for sharing, I am very aware of the benefits of water, too much water is not good though, but as you say people have rather less than more water intake. Good facts!

Hey Jessica! Yes, the stats are stunning and I was inspired to write about it b/c I know of way too many people who are not well and do not drink much water. I find people either love or hate water. Thanks for reading and may it inspire you to share it with others. A simple tip like this could change someone’s life, health wise! Bless you!

Water is such a no-brainer! It’s free, it’s good for you – what else do we need? (-_-) I often add freshly squeezed lemon in my water, it acts somewhat as a detoxifier. And – slices of orange is good in there too! Thanks for the great article. x0x

Hey Norma! Water is that way for me too, yet I believe not so for many many people! I love lemon in my water too. :) I now use lemon essential oil as it is more potent, and you get health properties from the oil in ways that you don’t get from just squeezed lemon. Doing both is optimal! Thanks for commenting and I am glad you give your body its best! Keep on drinking!

Um, yeah… I definitely need more water. The majority of my consumption is… well… Not WATER! I was just telling my husband an hour ago how I need to kick my Diet Soda habit. Thank you for the reminder and motivation!

Hey Angie! I know it is a struggle for MOST people! I wrote it to shed light and encourage people to kick their ‘other’ habits and give water a try! I know it is HARD! I just consider myself blessed to love water and I always have. I have my mother to thank. She NEVER bought soda and the only thing we had in the house was water, milk and OJ. I drank a lot of water b/c the other two just weren’t satisfying, personally. I am here to ‘challenge’ and encourage you on!!! I’m here to help serve you and your health goals. Blessings and thanks for sharing!

Very important information here, especially this time of year with forced air heat, a little more alcohol, and sweets every where. I do use citrus in my water, and I sometimes warm the water first. Very comforting and nourishing.

Hey Kelli! I know drinking water is difficult for many!! You are NOT alone! I wrote it for that very reason. I am hoping to inspire people to drink more water and if they know why it is so good for them, maybe they will do it solely for that purpose. The more you drink water, the more you will want it and like it! Adding citrus fresh oil to your water is a great way to make it taste great and you are getting amazing properties in the oils, furthering your health and recovery. Keep up the great work! I am proud of you! You can do it! Start telling yourself that your body wants and needs water… :) Blessings to you and thanks for your comments. They are greatly appreciated. Much love to you always!

95% of what I drink is water. I do have some black coffee in the morning and tea occasionally throughout the day. And when its warmer, I drink a lot of unsweetened decaf green tea. I love water. I always joke that I’m a heavy drinker. I always have water nearby!

Hey Summer! I am so thankful to read your comment. I too am a heavy drinker and literally can’t go without a glass of water in my hand. If I am not constantly sipping on water, my body goes into shock. People laugh at how much I drink. My body craves it every 5 minutes!!! We are alike and I love that you shared your love for water! Blessings and know how proud of you I am! :)
