Love In Action
This morning I read a tweet (twitter) from someone asking for prayer. My heart was compelled to pray for her, even though I didn’t even know her. This woman blessed me more than she will ever know. She allowed my heart to go deeper and confirmed how vital we are to one another. We are called to love one another. That means to love deeply, love when it isn’t convenient, love and expect nothing in return. Love builds up and doesn’t tear down. Love covers a multitude of sins. We are called to pray for one another. Lift one another up. Hold up the other persons arms when they can’t carry or lift their own.
It shows the power of love and the power of prayer.
Who knows how the rest of the day has gone for this sweet one. Prayer is powerful! Never underestimate the power of prayer! Prayer changes things! When we cry out for help, we know the Father is there in time of need. However, it is still nice to know that “someone” is listening, someone hears you, someone cares, and someone will love you right where you are, no matter what!
I think it is high time we take off our “masks” and be true to ourselves. We might be fooling others, but we are not fooling God. He knows our hearts, He knows our every thought, and we will be held accountable for every action. I think it is time we be REAL, like this sweet woman was on twitter, who blasted it out so hundreds of people could see/read. She had “no fear of man”, she was real, genuine, humble, and honest! She was honest with God, she was honest with herself, and she cried out hoping someone would “listen.” I am not wanting to over exaggerate the woman’s need, or misinterpret what she wrote on twitter, but I do know that you write from your heart and at “that moment” she needed LOVE.
What would the world be like if we were known for our love for one another?
What would it be like if everywhere you went, you saw “love in action?” What does that look like to you?
To me, it can look like any of the following:
- getting out of your car in a parking lot and seeing people praying for someone
- going to the hospital and praying for people who are sick, dying, in pain…
- simply listening to someone
- taking a meal over to a friend just because she has had a ‘rough’ day
- mowing your neighbor’s lawn because you heard his lawnmower broke
- denying yourself and putting another person’s needs above your own
- speaking words of life everywhere you go, to whomever you see
- giving someone a big smile and a hug
- accepting people for who they are and the way they are
- no outward judgement
- bearing one another’s burdens, sympathizing with one another, yet all the while focusing on the finished work of the cross
- grace, grace, grace!
- always serving others
- always put yourself in the other person’s shoes! What if the shoe was on YOUR foot?!
- being the exact representation of Jesus!
(Obviously, this list is just a few!)
I’m stuck on love in Scripture and can’t get out!
One of my passions in life is missions and I long for the day when I can live or stay in Central America for weeks or months at a time! Last year, August 2010, I went to Honduras on a missions trip and while I was there, God really started showing me the depths of His love and how to truly love, as He loves. Every time I study scripture and go deep into any area of His word, and each and every time I do, God brings me back to one word: LOVE. Everything boils down to that one word, the word called love. If we have not love, we are nothing! Faith, hope and love, but the GREATEST of these is LOVE! Love never fails! A friend loves at all times. Love your neighbor, as yourself. Love, love, love!
Back to this morning and this sweet woman…. did she experience the love of Christ?
I wonder if this little act of love made all the difference in her day? What would it have been like if no one responded to her tweet? Put yourself in her shoes! Always look at the person as if it were happening to yourself. It is easy to “judge” others and have little compassion, or better yet, NO compassion, but to me, that is not the love of the Father, nor the love of Jesus. Jesus would have met her right where she was, how she was feeling, and listened to her and loved on her. He would have told her, “I love you my daughter with an everlasting love! When I look at you, I see my Father. Draw near to me. Lay your shoulder on my chest. I am here to comfort and guide you. I love you because I love you because I love you because I love you!”
If you were having a tough moment, would you want people to rally around you and love and support you? Or, would you want people to ignore you, tell you to get a life, and treat you with utter disrespect? Treat others how you want to be treated. Love like there is no tomorrow.
