The beauty of Lemon
Lemon has to be one of the greatest fragrances there is. When I think of lemons, I just can’t help but smile. The fragrance of lemons is so refreshing, uplifting and invigorating. I think most everyone loves the smell of lemons. The fragrance is one of the reasons why it is in so many commerical products.
Lemon has taken on a whole new “twist” for me (hahaha, no pun intended!). I have for as long as I can remember used lemons in my water. It justs adds such a nice flavor and I always knew it was good for me, so I just did it, never bothering to know the facts behind lemons. I didn’t know the benefits of lemon until I started using essential oils.
My discovery of lemon essential oil
When I started using essential oils, I just replaced squeezing lemons, zesting lemons, and even juicing lemons with my lemon essential oil. I didn’t know the health benefits, or the potency of using the essential oil versus the lemon itself. After a short while of changing over from lemons to lemon oil, I started feeling more vibrant, a “skip in my step”, my hair and my fingernails started growing at a never before rapid rate, and my complexion seemed to glow.
With these rapid health changes, I decided to do some research on this amazing lemon essential oil. I knew lemon and lemon essential oil was good for you, but why were they so good for you?

Lemon oil is cold pressed from the rind of lemons. Jean Valnet, MD, estimated that is takes 3,000 lemons to produce one kilo of lemon oil. In his book, “The Practice of Aromatherapy,” Valnet wrote that lemon is a tonic for supporting the nervous and sympathetic nervous system. Dr. Valnet also states that the vaporized essence of lemon (when diffused in a diffuser) can kill meningococcus bacteria in 15 minutes, typhoid bacilli in one hour, Staphylococcus aureus in two hours, and Pneumococus bacteria within three hours. Even a 0.2 percent solution of lemon oil can kill diphtheria bacteria in 20 minutes and inactivate tuberculosis bacteria in the air.

Love, love the idea of subbing YL lemon essential oil for lemons in cooking. What ratio do you use to substitute?
Hey Ginny!!! Well, I think it depends on the recipe. Because essential oils are so highly concentrated, a few drops is usually ample. When it comes to cooking, I was taught by my grandma to “taste” test it versus always “measuring.” I am sorry I don’t have an exact answer.. but, as I previously mentioned, a few drops would be my rule of thumb! Great question! Thanks Ginny! Hope all is well:)
I love lemon oils as well! My favorite smell is definitely lemon!
I didn’t realize that there was a food grade lemon oil out there. I’ve bought bags of lemons for years and used them in cooking, water, and cleaning the stains off my cutting board, but occasionally one or two lemons will go moldy. That’s no fun. I bet the oil is a good way to avoid moldy lemons! Great idea! Thanks!
Hi Eryka!
Thanks for your comment! Yes, Young Living essential oils are therapeutic grade oils, safe for consumption! Oils on the market say 100% pure, but the FDA only insists 3% of the oil be pure to be labeled “pure”, and the rest of the bottle contains fillers, synthetics, etc. (and the bottle will say, not for internal use) Scary!!! That is why I use YL.
I rarely buy lemons now, because of cost efficiency and the oil has greater health benefits . Yes, lemon oil will never spoil, as do lemons! Glad I could be of help. Have a lovely day
So the same essential oil can be added to water as to your cleaning stuff?
i use lemon essential oils in a lot of ways. I keep a little jar in my purse if i feel a bit dizzy. One use for lemon essential all is an all-natural surface cleaner. Just add 10-20 drops of lemon essential oil to water and 1 cup of white vinegar. Another is for a room spritz. Add 10 drops of lemon essential oil to distilled water. put in a spritz bottle and spray everywhere as needed.
Wonderful comments and suggestions! Thanks so much!!!
Hi Andrea!
Yes! You can use Thieves cleaner in your dishwasher, washing machine, on your hardwood floors (it has lemon oil in it). You can also use lemon oil in your water, but also in your dishwasher, etc. The same goes for lavender. My mother in law puts a drop in her iron so her clothes come out smelling so fresh. I apply a drop of lavender in my dryer, on a natural ball, and make that my ‘scented sheet’.
Young Living oils are green, plant based, in the purest form and are considered “therapeutic -grade.” … healing properties when you apply them topically or inhale them or even “eat” them. Hope that helps!! Thanks for your question. Feel free to ask me anything else.
