My First Experience With Essential Oils

essential oils

I have been asked by a few mommy bloggers to share my first experience with essential oils. I have been a guest post and I feel so blessed to share my story with them. This post is a branch off from the entire post that you can read here. You can also read here.  It has been such a privilege working with Jennifer and Stacy

When I was told about essential oils (January 2011), my son and I had been VERY sick with pneumonia. We had been on rounds of antibiotics with ZERO improvement. I finally turned the corner, but my son was still not well.

My son had gone to six different doctors and was on three different antibiotics.  His ears had been plugged for six weeks and nothing was helping!  I was helpless and the doctors were too.

To see my child like this was gut wrenching. Nothing is worse than to see your child sick for weeks and no medicine out there will help.

The Doctors just kept subscribing new medicines (antibiotics).  I myself went through two boxes of Mucinex and no relief… along with the antibiotics and other drugs I was taking, as well as homeopathic herbs. I think we took everything off the shelf, both in term of OTC medicine and homeopthatic remedies.

In the midst of all this sickness was when I heard about Young Living oils. After hearing about them at the meeting and finally understanding the purpose of essential oils, I was so excited to try them.  I wanted them all!  I was done with the drugs!  If drugs don’t work, and they actually harm me more so than help, in the long run, why not try the oils… at least they won’t ‘harm’ my body…

I am also a believer in buying wholesale versus retail. So… I bought the $150 everyday oils starter kit, which was an unbelievably great deal!  Nine essential oils, plus two FREE oils, plus three FREE ningxia red juice packets, plus a $40 off coupon for a diffuser, plus CD’s/educational material.

The savings were outrageous going this route!  AND I don’t have to stock inventory AND I don’t have to sell it if I don’t want to AND to keep my wholesale membership, I only have to spend $50 in a 12 month period.  That was a no-brainier for me. . . sign me up!

When I received my Everyday Essential Oil starter kit, my son was still sick.  I put oils on him the day I got them. I already had an appointment to go back to the doctor.  When I took my son to the Doctor, they sent us to the hospital to have a chest x-ray because nothing was working . He had gone to six different doctors, been on rounds of antibiotics, a slew of over the counter drugs, etc.

He had a chest x-ray and blood drawn and was diagnosed with a rare form of pneumonia.  They sent us home with a prescription of “more drugs and another antibiotic.”

I had my “oils” and I was tired of drugs!  I couldn’t keep doing this to my son or myself. I was NOT going to give my son another 10 days of antibiotics- no way!
I read up on the oils and I started lathering valor, thieves, frankincense, purification, all over his spine.  I also put the oils on his feet.  I had him smell peppermint and I put frankincense on the crown of his head.

My son had asthma this entire time too… .so we were doing breathing treatments every four hours.  I put the frankincense on the crown of his head because that supposedly helps asthma.

I did this oil treatment every 2-3 hours… oils on his feet, oils on his spine, oils on his chest and on his head.  (this was a Monday when we came home from the hospital).  I also did this all day Tuesday.

That night, my son had soccer practice and I told him he needed to go.  He needed to get out of the house- the place that we had been trapped in for 2 months.

He didn’t want to go.

He said, “Mom, I get asthma just by running up the stairs.

I said, “Well, son, go run for a few minutes on the field, and we’ll do what we have been doing for months, just stick you on the breathing machine. If you get asthma, we’ll come home and we’ll give you your treatment.”  He finally agreed to go.

He practiced the ENTIRE 1 1/2 hours cough free, asthma free!!!!

He said it was one of his best practices and he felt 100%. (Don’t forget just the day before he was in the hospital diagnosed with a rare form of pneumonia!  He was lathered with essential oils for 2 days and was healed!)

That was my first experience in using the essential oils and why I was and am a firm believer of Young Living Essential Oils. The testimonies have not stopped for me and my family. This is why I share Young Living Oils with everyone and why I believe we all need them in our home. They are the missing link in modern medicine.

Thanks and if this has blessed you, would you please pass it along to others. Let them know there are healthy alternatives. I would love to help you on your journey.  I am forever grateful for Young Living Essential Oils- they have changed our life, in so many ways!

Blessings! To your health and wholeness,

Carrie :)

There are many essential oils that can help. The best way to get started is with this health kit and these oils will address the issues: Blessings, Carrie

Glad to hear the oils worked for your son. I also have been using the Thieves oil for chest congestion, colds, asthma and have gotten good results. However, the last few times I have ordered the Thieves oil, the formula seems different, it has a stronger cinnamon scent, and doesn’t seem as powerful. Do you know anything about the Thieves formula being altered, or if there is some sort of copycat product out there. I have been ordering it through Amazon. Any insight would be appreciated.

Great post! i’m just getting into EO’s myself and need them for a lot of reasons but my question for you is: my son is 6yrs old and for (what seems to be his whole life) he’s always had “cold type” symptoms. runny nose, coughing a lot, congestion everyday, etc. I’m always had the snotty nosed kid no matter what i try. The doc said possibly asthma or just a cold, but i know he cant have a cold for 5 yrs! He’s been on tons of antibiotics and OTC stuff.. doesnt help at all! and i’m sick of putting that stuff in him.. i’m wondering what EO’s you’d recommend i try on him or what combos might work best, there’s sooooooooooo much info out there and it’s confusing!

Hey Heather! Wow- so sorry to hear about your little one. That is terrible. Yea, we need to help his little body out. There are many oils that would benefit him: thieves, lavender, peppermint, frankincense, RC-respiratory congestion. The first 4 mentioned are in the Everyday Oils kit. It might be the best route to go. The oils will help to detox and cleanse his little body from all the antibiotics and OTC meds. Do you give him probiotics? How is his diet? I would love to talk to you more about him. Please contact me at I thank you for your interest in essential oils and wanting to try the natural route. Peace and blessings! :)

Wow, I keep hearing great things about essential oils. My son has occasional asthma issues, and I really need to investigate alternative treatments more. Thanks for sharing with Healthy 2Day Wednesday, and come back Wednesday to see if you were featured!
